Coach's Notes

10/21/20: We have started optional workouts at the high school stadium for ALL high school players and those thinking of playing in the spring that want to try it out now.  We hope to see as many players as possible attend these optionals so as to get acclimated:

1. 10/18 11:30-1:30

2. 10/25: 1:00-3:00

3. 11/1: 1:00-3:00

*ALL PLAYERS AND COACHING MUST ENTER THE STADIUM VIA THE TOP AND HAVE A TEMP CHECK BEFORE ENTERING.

*PLEASE WEAR A COMFORTABLE FACE MASK AS YOU WILL BE WEARING IT FOR MOST OF THE PRACTICE.

*IF YOU ARE NEW AND JUST CHECKING THINGS OUT, GIVE THE COACH A HEADS UP AT SFGLAXCOACH@GMAIL.COM!

 

IN THE MEANTIME, ALL PLAYERS ARE EXPECTED TO BE DOING THE FOLLOWING ON THEIR OWN TIME:

  • Find at least 20 minutes for wall ball (or rebounder work) at the minimum 4 days a week, more time is highly suggested! There is no way to control the ball if you cannot pass and catch efficiently. Nothing will help you improve stick skills than wall ball/rebounder work.  

  • Run, run, run!!!!  Keep that endurance up, otherwise, you will have to start all over at the beginning of the season and this wastes time and puts the team behind. All players, regardless of position should be able to run and there's no better way to increase your playing time than by having great stick skills and endurance/speed!  Many free apps can be downloaded so you can build up your endurance if you are struggling.

  • Shoot (if you have a goal or rebounder) - it does not matter what position you play, practicing your shooting helps with passing and catching. Besides that, you never know when your position could change. ALWAYS BE READY FOR ANYTHING!

  • Footwork - speed and agility all lies in the footwork. You should always be working your feet in addition to just running!

Your can find LOADS of drills for any of the above on You Tube and the internet in general.  If you want more ideas or want another specific workout to follow instead of the one sent in the spring, PLEASE REACH OUT TO ANY OF THE COACHES!  

If you are not working the above, you are going to be very behind the 8-ball, and this affects the team. There's ALWAYS time to work the fundamentals of the game.
